The Greater Fort Worth Community Band is the result of a cooperative effort by longtime Birdville ISD employees and friends, Dee Tucker and Henry Schraub. Tucker had played tuba with the Plano Community Band in the Spring of 2004 but found the 110 mile round trip a bit too taxing. At the Texas Bandmaster's Convention in 2004 he approached his former fine arts director about forming a local band with Schraub as the conductor and Tucker serving as President of the Board. That fall other board members were elected, the constitution & by-laws set and non-profit paperwork filed. By mid-January of 2005 the band was ready to start rehearsals. It was immediately obvious that something special was going to happen!

From an initial enrollment of 50 the band has grown to 84 musicians and draws from a myriad of professions such as banking, law enforcement, programming, nursing, medicine, and teaching. With a number of active and retired band directors and private teachers also performing, the level of performance has been outstanding!

Texas Wesleyan University and its band director, Dr. Bryan English, have been invaluable to the GFWC Band's success. Through a cooperative venture several TWU students perform with the group for partial lab credit and rehearsals and home concerts are held on campus in the Nicholas Martin Performance Hall.

The band also presents concerts at local high schools, at the Dallas Wind Symphony's Starplex Concerts in Dallas and at Peak Performance Options' Day at the Murchison in Denton.

The Greater Fort Worth Community Band thanks the Texas Bandmasters Association for this opportunity to perform.
